We believe that the fate of all working people and the communities in which they live are tightly bound together. We work in partnership with central labor councils, local unions, civil rights organizations, students, community, and faith-based organizations in mobilizing direct actions for social and economic justice, including the right to organize a union, rebuilding the social safety net, living wages, health care, and equal treatment for all. Missouri Jobs with Justice is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer. We seek a diverse pool of volunteers and applicants for all opportunities and responsibilities within the organization – in particular with respect to women, people of color, the LGBTQIA community, immigrants, and people of all ages.
The Position: Kansas City Health Care Organizer
The Kansas City Health Care Organizer, under the supervision of the Organizing Director, will work closely with the Kansas City Leadership Team, with the Kansas City Organizing Committee, with member organizations, and with funders to organize and support the local development and implementation of JwJ’s health care organizing campaign. The primary focus of this position is to increase civic engagement and voter turnout in working-class communities of color in Kansas City. This is a full-time position. This position will be based in Kansas City, but will include some travel around the state as part of campaign mobilizations and meetings with the broader Missouri JwJ leadership and staff.
Base-Building: The Kansas City JwJ coalition is in a phase of incredible growth and investment. The KC Health Care Organizer will work closely with local leadership to expand the base of individuals committed to taking action with JwJ in support of access to affordable health care for all.
Campaign Execution: The heart of Jobs with Justice is taking action through grassroots campaigns for social and economic justice. The KC Health Care Organizer will coordinate campaign development, mobilization, and evaluation with Kansas City leaders and members. Key aspects of the JwJ Health Care campaign are increasing turnout among infrequent voters, mobilizing voters to contact their elected officials, and organizing public town halls on health care issues.
Committee Support and Development: JwJ operates through leadership-driven committees like the Kansas City Leadership Team, Organizing Committee, Mobilization Committee and other campaign or project specific committees. The KC Health Care Organizer will work closely with the KC Regional Organizer to support these committees by providing monthly reports on health care organizing, project accountability, and more.
Fundraising, Communications and Data Management: The KC Health Care Organizer will be expected to participate in JwJ’s ongoing grassroots fundraising program, including organizational contributions, individual contributions, merchandise sales, grants, and grassroots activities. The KC Health Care Organizer will also be responsible for maintaining parts of internal data and helping shape our online communications message around our health care organizing.
Leadership Development: The KC Health Care Organizer will encourage, foster and develop the abilities of JwJ members, particularly rank and file members, to play leading roles in developing and implementing the health care organizing campaign. They will recruit individuals to share their personal stories relating to health care access, and they will develop grassroots team leaders in targeted communities. Leadership development will also include recruiting new health care activists to the three-day Building JwJ Leadership Development trainings throughout the year.
