On January 27, 1STL janitors led a large rally and march in downtown St. Louis, which culminated in a planned civil disobedience action and the arrest of 17, including MO JWJ staff, Workers’ Rights Board, and Leadership Team members, as well as workers and other local leaders. Soon after this day of action, a new 3-year contract for 2,100 janitors in commercial buildings was successfully bargained and ratified, including new benefits and pay raises totalling over $15.3 million dollars.

We continue to stand alongside SEIU Local 1 ’s One St. Louis (1STL) campaign that seeks a new contract for the 2,100 janitorial workers and a $15/hour minimum wage for the St. Louis region. In January 2020, MO JWJ members joined several solidarity actions to amplify these workers’ demands. We marched with janitorial workers through the buildings they maintain, reminding building owners that it is the workers who keep St. Louis going!
